Vets and my breed

Had mum up early this morning for a run round the garden - then off to the vets. Mum & Dad have bought a crate for me to sit in whilst in the car. It took a little bit of persuasion for me to go - but I had some toys to play with and went in eventually!!!

The vet was very nice, but I had to have some injections and a tablet. My weight  is 16kg - not bad!!! I have to go back in a months time for more!!!!
Had a little nap on the way back, then some lunch and a sleep.

Dad is taking me out in the garden this afternoon - to get used to the tractor and to explore the back garden.

I thought I would let you know all about my magnificent breed.
The Leonberger originates from the town of Leonberg in Germany. The mayor decided that he would like a dog that looked like the lion on the towns coat of arms. Leonberg is situated about 15 kilometres from Stuttgart and about 50 kilometres from Rottweil, the cradle of that other dog, the Rottweiler. Leonbergers were  first  bred in 1846 by Heinrich Essing. These dogs came about as a crossing between the St. Bernard, the Great Pyreness and the Newfoundland.. Leonbergers were almost extinct at the end of World War Two - but some of these dogs were gathered by the Germans and the breed became established.
After the war, there was a tale told of a soldier who saw a Leonberger tied up on a farm. The solder asked the farmer what he was doing with the dog. He replied that he was going to kill the dog and make him into soap  (how horrible). The soldier immediately returned to his barracks and got 10 bars of soap and gave them to the farmer in return for the dog.  The soldiers name was David Gower and he called the dog President Wilson. In 1988 a lady was taking her Leonbergers to a hospital (they were PAT dogs - these dogs are used in hospitals and other places for people to interact with). She spoke to two elderly gentleman who, on hearing the dogs were Leonbergers, informed the lady that their mate during the war bought 1 for 10 bars of soap!!!
A little digging around for the address and the lady arrived at Davids house. He confirmed the story and showed her pictures of  President Wilson. The lady showed David her 2 Leonbergers. On seeing them he started to cry as he had not seen one since his died over 40 years ago
This is David with Wilson

A story with a happy ending!!  I hope mine has one to.
